The term
"outpatient operation" describes operative interventions
with the patient
staying at home the night before and after
the operation.
While in the USA outpatient interventions
were carried out as early as in the fifties this tendency
has not been coming up before the mid eighties in Germany. |
 |
In the nineties these operations became more widespread.
So, according to information by the Statutory Health Insurances,
in 1990 2.7 million outpatient operative interventions
were carried out in the Federal Republic of Germany, by
1995 this number had reached 6.6 million. |
